Photography Show and Photography Events Announced

Juried Photography Exhibition


The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is currently accepting entries for a juried photography exhibition January 2 - February 4, 2006.

All photographic works are welcome, conventional and unconventional processes, techniques, aesthetics, approaches, subjects, material or digital works, video, and photo installations. The judge for the show is Bruce McKaig, artist, instructor and Chair of the Arts Workshop’s Photography Department. Prizes will be awarded in various categories with two top prizes of $200 cash.

Submission of work

1. Up to five images of work via slides or a CD (jpeg format) may be submitted to the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop by November 18, 2005. Images must be labeled with artist’s name, date, title, size, and process. Please include a slide or jpeg inventory list (with optional artist statement) and a self addressed stamped envelope for the return of materials. Selected artists will be notified by November 30, 2005 and selected artwork must be delivered to the Arts Workshop by December 16, 2005.

2. Entries may be mailed or dropped off in person at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop at 545 7th Street, SE Washington, DC 20003. A non-refundable entry fee of $20 is due at the time of receiving.

3. Work must be ready to display/hang/install. There are no size limitations if we are able to accommodate it in our gallery.

4. Sale of artwork is encouraged with a 30% commission to CHAW

5. All artwork is insured while it is in the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop gallery.


Opening Reception is scheduled for January 10, 2006 (7:00-9:00 p.m.) and will kick off the Arts Workshop’s Photography Month, celebrating the grand opening of its newly renovated darkroom and new digital computer lab.

CHAW will host the following lectures on Tuesday evenings throughout the exhibit:

January 17th: Photographers Chan Chao, Roberto Bocci, and Franz Janzen speak on their work. 7:00-9:00 p.m.

January 24th: Shannon Perich, Associate Curator Museum of American History speaks on the history of digital photography. 7:00-9:00 p.m.

January 31st: Andy Grundberg, art critic, speaks on the dynamics of non-digital photography in the digital age. 7:00-9:00 p.m.
