The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is hosting an Open House on Saturday, January 7, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Visitors will learn about arts classes for all ages, private music lessons and upcoming performances and exhibitions.   Visitors can also participate in free classes and demonstrations including including Mixed Media Art, Knitting, Quilting, Photography, Ceramics, and more!

Arts Workshop staff and faculty will be on hand to meet the community and offer tours of the theater, and art, dance, and ceramics studios. The Open House offers a first look at the Arts Workshop’s soon-to-be-completed basement renovations featuring an improved darkroom, new digital computer lab and private music rooms.

These renovations are key to the revitalization of the Arts Workshop’s photography program.   The new photography program kicks off on January 10th with the opening of the 2006 Capitol Hill Arts Workshop Juried Photography Exhibition.  Works from photographers from 15 states and the District of Columbia were chosen for the show and the public is invited to join us on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm for the opening reception.

Jonathan Darr, Director of the Arts Workshop sees the opening of the show as a great opportunity to herald the new opportunities for photographers both new and seasoned.  “We received more than 600 images for and selected about 60 for the show.  With such great interest in photography, both digital and darkroom, we look forward to serving the community with a new and improved facility.  We’d love to see the community at the Open House and the Reception for the Photo Show.  Great things are happening at the Arts Workshop and we will be building a community of photographers and those who love photography.  Come on by!”

The Arts Workshop’s new photography facility should be up and running in February.  It will consist of a seven-station darkroom, a classroom, and a digital studio.  In addition to the photo show and reception, the Arts Workshop is welcoming several distinguished photographers and photography writers for a lecture series throughout the month of January:

January 17th:  Photographers Chan Chao, Roberto Bocci, and Franz Janzen speak on their work. 7:00-9:00 p.m.

January 24th:  Shannon Perich, Associate Curator Museum of American History speaks on the history of digital photography. 7:00-9:00 p.m.

January 31st:  Andy Grundberg, art critic, speaks on the dynamics of non-digital photography in the digital age. 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Some dumb guy said...

Are there going to be any March or April Digital Photography classes? Also, do the beginner classes instruct one on how to use the digital camera (i.e., shutter speed, aperature)?
